Assistant Counselor Program
Assistant Counselor (AC) roles are volunteer positions available for those individuals who are unable to commit to working at camp for the entire summer or for those high school students who are too old for the LIT and TA program but are still too young to be considered for a group counselor position. Assistant Counselors fulfill a variety of vitally important roles within camp, from helping with camper groups, leading scheduled activities, and working behind the scenes to help ensure campers are having the best experience possible.
ACs are able to volunteer for one or more of the summer sessions that fit their schedule but must commit to the entire week. The AC program is also an excellent way for participants to be introduced to the Camp Sonshine environment and culture, and is a great way to determine if becoming a group counselor would be a fit for the future or not. We hire many of our summer staff members from those who have volunteered in one of these roles.
There is an application process for the AC program that begins by completing the online application form. After submitting the AC application, a Camp Sonshine staff member will be in contact to schedule an interview time with you and to discuss your next steps.
