Camp isn’t just for kids…it’s also for grown-up kids, like you! Volunteer an hour, a day, a week, a month, or the entire summer at your favorite spot. Check out the opportunities below and make an unforgettable, fun camp memory with your kids, grandkids, or friends.

Volunteer Opportunities

I’m a foodie and I love chocolate chips! (FOOD OPPORTUNITIES)

Position:  Cookies for Staff Lunches (NO NUTS)

Camp Location:  Sonshine

Job Description:  Bring us cookies (approx 35 staff) to give us a boost!  We look forward to lunch just because of these cookies!

Time Commitment:  You can buy ‘em or bake ‘em…just make sure you bring ‘em!  

NO NUTS PLEASE!  Bring cookies when and however many you want…we’ll freeze ‘em.

 

Position:  End-of-the-Day Staff Meals (approx 35 staff)

Camp Location:  Sonshine

Job Description:  Make meals for staff dinners, on your own or with a group of friends.  

Time Commitment:  Meals are needed Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 6:30p. Pick your day, then drop the food off or better yet, stay to serve and eat with the staff!

 

Position: Salad Bar – FILLED 

Camp Location: Sonshine

Job Description:  Bring greens and toppings at the beginning of the week for the week.

Time Commitment: Simply the time it takes to shop and deliver the produce.

 

Position:  Camp Sonshine Saturday AM Pancake Breakfast – FILLED

Camp Location:  Sonshine

Job Description:  Assist in making/serving pancakes and sausage for the Saturday morning breakfast. 

Time Commitment:  Saturday 8:00a-10:30a

 

Position:  Camp Solaris Cookouts – Thursdays & Fridays

Camp Location:  Solaris

Job Description:  Assist grilling hot dogs, cutting watermelon, setting out food, keeping food stocked and clean-up.

Time Commitment:  

  • Solaris Adventure weeks – Thursday 4:30p-7:30p (actual cookout 5:30-6:30p)
  • Journey/Expedition weeks – Friday 4:3p-7:30p (actual cookout 5:30-6:30p)

Position:  Camp Solaris Staff Meals (approx. 15 staff)

Camp Location:  Solaris

Job Description:  Provide a home-cooked meal for camp staff before a week of “camp food” which would include a main dish, side dish, fresh fruit/salad/veggies, and a sweet treat.

Time Commitment:  5:00p – set up; 5:30p dinner, start up the end of May-first of August

Position:  Bring restaurant food for staff  (approx 35) on Tuesdays, 5:30p

Camp Location:  Sonshine

Job Description:  Bring food from restaurants or give a gift certificate; Raising Caines & Runza have been good to us in the past; we’re open to new places!

Position:  Nana’s Snack Shack Attendant

Camp Location:  Sonshine

Job Description:  Assist campers in purchasing items, restock inventory, simple custodial jobs.  Also assist with camper accounts and simple monetary tasks.  Pick up inventory at Sam’s Club and bring to Sonshine.

Time Commitment:

Monday – Check-in, 8:30a-10:00a  (need 2)

Tuesday-Friday – daily 10:00a-1:00p (need 2) and 1:00p- 4:00p (need 2)

Position:  Camp Store Attendant

Camp Location:  Camp Solaris

Job Description:  Assist campers in purchasing items, restock inventory, simple custodial jobs.

Time Commitment:  Pick your days and times.

Solaris Adventures weeks:

Check-in – Monday mornings 9:00a-10:15a only

Monday – Thursday, 10:00a-6:00p (times vary daily) 

Journey/Expedition weeks:

Monday – Friday 10:00a-6:00p

Position:  Landscaping – Adopt a Plot

Camp Location:  Sonshine & Solaris

Job Description:  Be a part of a team that plants/maintains camp landscaping, which involves planting, mulching, weeding, and watering.  Work throughout the camp or “adopt a plot” and make it your family’s special spot of beauty…marked with your family’s name.

Time Commitment:  

  • Spring – one-time clean-up event, planting 
  • Summer – weekly weeding/watering, according to weather

 

Position:  Mowing  FILLED

Camp Location:  Sonshine & Solaris

Job Description:  Be a part of a team that maintains the grounds by weedwacking, mowing and trimming trees/bushes.  Each camp has one mower and one weedwacker; fuel tanks on site.

  • Weekly (varies with season and moisture)
  • Camp Sonshine – Saturdays after lunch;  Sundays anytime
  • Camp Solaris –   Saturdays or Sundays anytime

Position:  Mowing  FILLED

Camp Location:  Sonshine & Solaris

Job Description:  Be a part of a team that maintains the grounds by weedwacking, mowing and trimming trees/bushes.  Each camp has one mower and one weedwacker; fuel tanks on site.

Tinker, take apart, put together...that’s what I like to do. (MAINTENANCE)

Position:  Vehicle Maintenance – FILLED

Camp Location:  Sonshine

Job Description:  Provide on-going maintenance for mowers, go-carts, goft carts and other camp vehicles.

Time Commitment:  ongoing maintenance, Spring-Fall

 

Position:  Handyman 

Camp Location:  Sonshine & Solaris

Job Description:  Help in areas of plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, misc. fix-its, from vacuum cleaners to air conditioners. 

Time Commitment:  year-round opportunities; at your convenience

Project:  Firewood for Campfires

Camp Location:  Sonshine & Solaris

Job Description:  Keep fire pits stocked with firewood for bonfires throughout the summer and fall months.  Log splitter provided at Sonshine site.  Firewood for Sonshine is placed along the treeline on the west side of property; firewood for Solaris needs to be brought to that site.  

Time Commitment:   April/May, early July, and late August; at your convenience

Project:  Fishing and Fishing Equipment

Camp Location:  Camp Sonshine

Job Description:  String fishing poles and prepare/maintain fishing equipment for use.

Time Commitment:  As needed at your convenience

Job Description:  Come speak and encourage Camp Sonshine Staff Tuesday nights during ARD (Abide, Remain, Dwell).  You can speak on whatever is on your heart or on our weekly or summer theme.  

Time Commitment: Tuesday nights (except June 30th) 7:00p-8:00p, 15 – 20 mins.

 

Position:   Chapel Speaker

Camp Location:  Solaris

Job Description:    Share God’s Word in relevant and captivating ways to kids and teens at Camp Solaris!  Share about your personal walk with Christ or give a lesson based on our summer theme.

Time Commitment:   30-40 minutes  

  • Adventure weeks (grades 3-5) – Monday 7:40p; Tuesday 6:00p
  • Journey/Expedition weeks (grades 5-9) – Tuesday 8:00p, Thursday 7:00p

    Job Description:  Lead worship for chapel or around the campfire

    Time Commitment:  evenings, varies by week

    Job Description:  Read a book to a group of Explorer Campers (K-2nd grade)

    Time Commitment:   varies,  Monday – Friday 11:00a-3:00p.

    Job Description: Assist with camper check-ins, i.e., medications, camp store money, forms, etc.

    I love to care for the health needs of others! (CAMP MEDICAL ASSISTANCE)

    Location:  Camp Sonshine

    Job Description:  Review camp’s network infrastructure, health and scalability.  Advise and assist with ongoing network maintenance, connectivity and network security.

    Position:  Pre-Session Mailing

    Location:  Camp Sonshine

    Job Description:  Assist with mailing that goes out every Thursday morning to registered campers for the next week.

    Time Commitment:  2 hours each Wednesday during camp – come anytime between 12:00p – 4:00p

    • Interior design (finishings)…for what?
    • Craft supplies – If you’re cleaning out your craft room and making room for new things consider donating your craft supplies to Camp Sonshine. 
    • Old neck ties – these make great blindfolds
    • Shipping container – that we can use to build go-kart storage or other activity area storage.
