What We Talked About

We had an amazing week of camp and really enjoyed getting to engage with the topic of goodness with the campers.  It was so wonderful watching groups practice goodness to each other and to other groups.  There were so many notes of encouragement being passed around, groups doing random acts of kindness for each other, and many other displays of goodness throughout the week.

One of the highlights from this week that demonstrates how well the kids grabbed onto the idea of goodness was their response towards helping and supporting the campers at the Camp Sonshine we started in Jalisco, Mexico 11 years ago.  Every year we take the fun and life changing memories of camp to hundreds of campers in Mexico and are able to provide them and their families with some additional food items and clothing.  This week we invited the campers to help raise funds for camp and they completely blew us away!  We originally set a goal of $300, which quickly got pushed to $400, but by the end of the day on Friday we had raised just over $800.  What an amazing display of generosity and goodness!!!  Thanks for a great week and joining us on the journey as we BECOME more of who we were created to be.

Questions to Ask Your Camper

  1. What do you think the difference is between kindness and goodness?
  2. Why does it feel so good to do something nice for others?  Also, why do you think we feel guilty and bad when we do something that is not right?
  3. How can our family demonstrate goodness to each other, our neighbors, our friends or extended family?
