For campers entering 5th-6th grade in the fall, we take adventure to a whole new level. Besides the regular line-up of the most popular camp activities such as archery, go-karts, outdoor cooking, swimming and many others, campers will get to pre-register for a special elective activity to participate in during our scheduled elective periods.
High Adventure Electives
The High Adventure elective program was a huge success last summer so we’ve expanded electives to include Adventure Camp (3rd-4th grade) as well, however, we have decided to offer Horses, Airsoft, and Rocketry exclusively to High Adventure campers. A brief description of each elective is provided below. Electives will not interfere with the regularly scheduled camp activities such as archery, go-karts, etc. and are only available during the sessions indicated.
- Horse Program at Still Water Ranch (Sessions 4, 6)
We are excited to be partnering with Still Water Ranch in Hickman, NE to bring an introductory equestrian program to the campers at Camp Sonshine. In this program, campers will learn many of the basics of caring for and working with horses, not to mention the peaceful joy that comes with riding.
- Airsoft Adventure (Sessions 2, 5, 7)
As a safer, more affordable alternative to Paintball and with the strategic game-play similar to that of Laser Tag, Airsoft is quickly growing in popularity. Camp Sonshine is excited to offer an elective for those families whose kids are interested in Airsoft, to instruct these campers on safety procedures, proper handling & storage and provide them with a supervised environment to safely practice their technical skills and abilities. Individual skill competitions will be offerd for campers to test their aim, speed & accuracy.
- Rocketry Explosion (Sessions 1, 3, 8)
New for 2012, Rocketry Explosion is sure to become a favorite. Campers will be flying high as they send up various types of rockets, as well as have the opportunity to construct and launch their very own rocket ship over 300 ft. into the sky.
- Anomolie Children’s Theater Program (Sessions 1, 2, 5, 6)
In this high energy program, campers will enjoy plenty of stage time as they sing, act and add choreography to their performance. They will learn some theater basics and then go crazy as they practice and prepare for their musical perfromance during the Saturday morning Parent Breakfast following the Overnighter.
- X-treme Art (Sessions 3, 4, 7, 8)
Designed for those campers who love creativity and art, this activity will offer campers the opportunity to take their art to the extreme. Projects will utilize a wide array of mediums and “canvases”, allowing campers to create unique works of art to take home, as well as offering them creative ways to leave their mark on Camp Sonshine.
- Sports Spectacular (Sessions 3, 6)
Designed for campers with a passion for sports, this activity will offer coaching and instruction for a variety of popular athletic activities as well as some unique sports. Campers will participate in drills focused on their technical skills as well as have the opportunity to test their abilities against each other in supervised athletic competitions.
- Fun on the Farm (Sessions 2, 5, 7)
This program will give campers hands on experience with a variety of farming activities at neighboring Joyland Farms. From feeding and watering small animals, to tending to and harvesting the many types of organic produce growing, or even learning about making honey from a local hive, campers are in for a ton of fun as they spend time “down on the farm”.
- Lego Maniacs (Sessions 1, 4, 8)
Creativity, patience and teamwork are the keys to this activity as campers try to accomplish various tasks and objectives through the use of LEGOs. Campers will also have the opportunity to design, construct and program a LEGO robot that will need to perform a predefined task.
- Camp Classic (Available ALL Sessions)
For those campers who are not interested in any of the other Elective options available, they are able to join with other campers to enjoy some more of the regularly scheduled camp activities. There is no additional cost to this option and we are confident that campers choosing this will have just as much adventure and excitement as other elective activities.
Overnighters
Explorer campers have an optional Overnighter on Friday night of each session. Campers participate in special activities such as a specially planned all-camp activity, roasting marshmallows, cooking their own dinner over a fire, a special bonfire time they won’t want to miss, and camping out under the stars!
Families are invited to return to camp on Saturday morning at 9:00 A.M. to join their camper and the rest of the Camp Sonshine staff for our much anticipated End of Session Breakfast. After a fresh pancake breakfast and a few closing words from the directors, campers and their families will enjoy reliving the highlights of the week as they watch their Session Video.
Grouping
High Adventure Campers will be grouped based upon similar age and by gender. You may request up to 2 friends to be placed within the same group. We will do our best to honor these requests but can not make any guarantees.
